I checked the tour videos on Youtube before going to the show, it looked promising. Sadly the show did not deliver what their promotion videos promised. I am biased as I was disappointed by the photo rules, but even musically I found the beginning of the show to be rather flat. That changed a bit later on but all in all I was left with a sense of ……missing something. I was also taken aback by the fact that the concert was all seated ….. yes you read correctly a Metal concert with seats.
On a technical note: I just don’t get some artists. The stage was huge and magnificently build, Sharon den Adel was dressed beautifully. But where was the light ? She sang the whole first song from the back of the stage with a HUGE shadow over most of her face. When she came forward the light was gone, most of the stage was plunged in total darkness. Later on she changed and the shred of light that we had disappeared for a very faint red. I had to crank the ISO all the way up. I used the 70-200 F2.8 and the 24-70 F2.8 for this gig.
The rest of the set can be seen here on flickr.
