It’s the second time around that I’ve photographed The Kooks at Den Atelier. They came a long way from 2010 on stage, I remember it felt quite chaotic back then. But last night they had their act together and performed a very solid show at the sold out venue. They seem more focussed musically as well, so all in all I enjoyed photographing and listening to them a lot.
On a technical note: Den Atelier is a very small venue, hence the stage is small as well. Where it’s nice to the artists and the crowd to be so close to each other it makes for quite dull backdrops and harsh light. I usually try to use a fisheye when shooting there, but in this case the stage was full with gear that would be more of a hindrance than anything else. The light was so so, … harsh blues and reds. I used the 24-70 F2.8 only for this one.
