I didn’t know Sufjan Stevens at all when I got the assignment. The reporter who was covering the gig told me that he was a huge fan and that it’s an awesome artist. While I wasn’t thrilled to be shooting in a Theatre I accepted. As it happens I am happy I did, Sufjan Stevens is a very special artist full of passion and he’s sharing it in an amazing way through his music.
On a technical note: That on the other side was a nightmare. I got stuck in a side box and wasn’t able to move at all. The light was very moody and superbly chosen for the concert, but one of the worst to photograph. It felt like sitting in the crowd and be stuck. I used the 70-200mm and the 24-70mm for this gig.
