I saw Nickelback as opening act for Bon Jovi back in 2005. I remember I was impressed by the quality of that opening act. So much that I went and bought their CD “All The Right Reasons” and loved it. 10 Years later I get hired to photograph them and start listening to their latest Albums “No Fixed Address” and “Here and Now”. I found they sounded quite similar to each other and to the album from 2005. They cancelled a few gigs due to sickness, I didn’t get to photograph them and that was that. When I got the mail with the request to photograph them this time around I was excited and dove into their albums again only to have the same experience as last year. That being said, the show was great and the sound was good.
On a technical note: I had to sign a contract, … again and photos from FOH (Front Of House) only. That was disappointing …….. The light was great though and they let us shoot from the balcony left and right from the stage with was ok. It’s not the same as shooting from the pit, but hey. Shooting Nickelback from the Pit would have been awesome with the light show that they had. I used the 70-200 and 24-70 for this gig.
