It’s been a while since I’ve listened more actively to Massive Attack. When I was assigned the gig I wasn’t really sure what to expect from the Band. I was kind of disappointed by the setup of the stage as I didn’t have a chance to photograph the whole band together on stage. That didn’t have an impact on the performance though. The venue was sold out and judging by how the people reacted it seemed to be a good show.
A piece of advice for my fellow concert photographers: I nearly missed the gig due to a massive lack of parking spaces. I usually get to the gigs 30 – 45 minutes before stage time, which is more than enough. Yesterday though there were some other activities in Luxembourg city that resulted in full parking all over the place. It was pure luck that I’ve found one 5 minutes before the gig was supposed to start, and that the security guys knew me, and didn’t make me pass through the usual procedure of getting in. So, make sure you check the Agenda of the location before going and plan accordingly, and as usual always be nice to the security guys. It’s in situations like these that having a good relationship with them really pays off.
On a technical note: As often with Tripp Hop there was no real light to speak of. There was a very subtle white spotlight here and there but it was mainly pure blue or red. I’ve used the 24-70 and the 70-200 for this gig.
